Description

This 15 acre garden is divided into a series of smaller themed gardens, inter-connected by paths, bridges, steps and tunnels. The layout is such that each theme, inspired by countries around the world, is awaiting discovery and every twist and turn holds another surprise.

The Chinese garden surrounded by the Great Wall of China is probably the jewel in the crown. The richly decorated temple, bridge and Joss house contrast beautifully with the lush green hues of the exotic planting and mystical properties of the pond.

Other features of note are the Egyptian Court, the Pinetum and the Cheshire cottage. The scale of the buildings, artefacts and planting is always in keeping with the space available, such that none is allowed to dominate.

Though the garden, by National Trust standards, is quite small the time required to explore all of its features is considerable.
