Longshaw Estate via Froggatt Edge, Curbar Gap and White Edge

This was the first day of a mini break in Derbyshire. We parked at the National Trust's Longshaw Estate car park and then followed one of the numerous tracks which criss-cross the estate. Though the weather was very mild the sky looked rather threatening with low cloud and mist; not ideal for photography.

We followed the path along Froggatt Edge and Curbar Edge, where we came upon a group of young Russian speaking walkers travelling in the opposite direction. One of the group was from Samara, Russia. A few weeks previous we spent the last days of our trip to Russia in Samara, before flying back to the UK from the city's airport.

By the time we reached Curbar Gap the low cloud had lifted allowing long periods of hazy sunshine so we decided to make this a circular walk by heading north onto White Edge where the moor had taken on some wonderful autumnal colours.

Several people coming from the opposite direction on White Edge told of seeing a stag on the moor. Though we kept our eyes peeled we couldn't locate it, until a loud bellowing gave away its position. By this time the stag had joined a number of other deer under the canopy of some young trees. I tried taking a photograph, but forced to use maximum zoom and shooting into the sun, the results were rather disappointing.
